YORKSHIRE WEATHER AND HOW IT AFFECTS YOUR WEDDING PHOTOS

RAIN ON YOUR YORKSHIRE WEDDING DAY?

 As a creative wedding photographer, I'm used to most conditions that the elements may throw at me. Many may prefer to stay indoors when bad weather hits, but we can actually produce some stunning and artistic photographs during rain or snow.

If you're having a Yorkshire wedding, then the prospect of having bad weather ruin your day has probably crossed your mind. Have a chat with your wedding photographer to calm your nerves and ask if they've had any experience in photographing wet weddings.

Most couples dread the possibility of a downpour during their wedding day. But don't get too worried about it. A few drops of rain on your wedding day can potentially lead to some stunning wedding photos.

Here is our top tips if you're worried about rain on your wedding day.

TOP 10 TIPS FOR GETTING STUNNING PHOTOS IF IT RAINS ON YOUR WEDDING DAY.

1. The easiest way to be prepared for rain on your wedding day, is to keep a couple of umbrellas nearby. Most professional wedding photographers will carry a couple with them if the forecast isn't looking great. If its getting close to your wedding day and you still don't have any, Amazon could come to your rescue. They offer next day delivery in most cases, so even if its last minute you wont get caught out. Just remember you'll want some plain coloured (white) ones, so they look great on your photos.

2. If your wedding if during the colder times of the year, make sure that you incorporate a wrap or jacket into your day dress. This will keep you warm while you're outdoors having your wedding photography.

3. Always have someone nearby to help with carrying your umbrellas or holding your dress off the floor. One of your bridemaids or best man is a perfect choice for this, as they'll normally be nearby at most times of the day.

4. It might be tempting to check the weather forecast a couple of weeks before the wedding, but don't take it as gospel. A 24 or 48 hour forecast is going to give you a more accurate forecast, so just be prepared for any sort of change in the weather.

5. Be prepared. The weather could change in the blink of an eye, especially in Yorkshire. Depending on the time of year, you may need to have a few option available to you if there is a downpour.

6. Don't panic. If the weather is really bad, there's always an option to have your wedding photos indoors. Check with your wedding venue ahead of time and ask if they have any options to use one of their rooms for your formal photos. You never know, you may get a few breaks in the rain to pop outside and grab some shots of you and your loved one on your own.

7. Have a spare pair of shoes at hand. Most wedding venues will have some sort of lawn or garden. If it's rained for a few days prior to your wedding, then it may be sludgy or waterlogged. The last thing you're going to want, is spending all day in wet socks.

8. A spare pair of socks should be high on your list too. If you're spending the night at your wedding venue then its easy enough to have some at hand.

9. When choosing your wedding venue, make sure you take everything into consideration. Do they have any spots indoors for your photography? I've been to so many wedding venues that aren't set up well enough for a rainy day. This is something you don't want to be thinking about on the day.

10. No matter what the weather, make sure you always keep a smile on your face. The last thing you want is to look glum on your wedding photos.

Always be prepared for wet weather. This is Yorkshire and even the forecasters can never fully predict the weather. You will have an amazing day no matter if it rains or not, so try not to worry about it. It's important to not let it spoil your day, we can get some stunning photos and some of my favourites have been taken in the rain.

Knowing what the weather is like over the pennines, we were prepared with umbrellas for the wedding. Unfortunately it was heavily raining all day, so the couple just asked for photos taking indoors. This photo shows the sort of image that we can capture indoors, even if you can't have any outdoors.

Sheffield is notorious for it raining most of the year. The day of this wedding was no different. Luckily enough, the Millennium Gallery has some amazing locations inside and just outside, that it meant we didn't get too wet. One of my signature shots of the couple keeping dry under my umbrella.

One of the more local wedding venues for me. It never stopped raining during this couples wedding day. Luckily enough, they didn't let it ruin their day. We managed to get a range of shots indoors as well as this stunning shot under some trees in the garden. The trees provided great cover from the rain so they didn't get too wet.
